Community groups' achievements celebrated
8:55am Friday 10th February 2012

COMMUNITY groups from all over York came together to celebrate their achievements over the last year.
The event was organised by Edible York, a project which turns unloved corners of the city into gardens where edible produce can be grown.
The evening included a series of guest speakers followed by the AGM, when votes were taken by raising a fistful of carrots.
Vicky Harland, of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, is the manager of Dig In, a three-year project funded by the Big Lottery Fund, which aims to create ten such community-led growing spaces in the city.
Vicky said: “The project is there to teach people how to grow holistically and to get back in touch with nature. The growing spaces are primarily for growing food but are also designed to be complementary to the environment.”
