Snooker: Lister leads Fulford to top spot in Faber Shield
10:35am Saturday 11th February 2012
Fulford took advantage of Heworth’s free week to displace them as leaders of the York Conservative Clubs’ Faber Shield Billiards League after a 5-1 win over Bootham ‘B’.
Wayne Puleston and Tom Wilson gave Fulford an ideal start and Alan Reed made it 3-0 with a 278-point aggregate lead.
Tim Fillington reduced the arrears with a 62-point win, but Tim Lister (27, 29 breaks) sealed the result, giving Fulford a three-point lead at the top.
Acomb replaced Bootham ‘A’ in third spot by defeating them 4-2 in a close match.
Trevor Ventress opened their account before Paul Holmes held off Colin Robinson (40 break) to make it 2-0.
Chris Dower pulled a frame back and Nick Parker could have levelled against Keith Myers but, with both players needing two points, Myers prevailed.
Barry Rankin (21, 23, 24 breaks) needed to win by 28 points, but Ken Bowser held on to ensure Acomb got the aggregate point.
Wilson’s win was his ninth in ten games, but Heworth’s Gary Rogers continues to lead the way in the Cameo Engraving Player of the Year competition as he is unbeaten with nine wins.
He also leads the Cameo Engraving Highest Break competition with a 71 break. Terry Ward, of Fulford, is second with a 67.
